Performing Musician

Performing is what drew me to music and remains my most favorite thing to do with my instrument. While the bulk of my performance experience is in my home genres of bluegrass, old-time, Americana, and country, I also have experience performing Celtic, blues, jazz, rock, metal, pop, singer-songwriter, and music that defies categorization.

I have experience playing solo, twin/triple fiddling, playing in a string section, and playing in the pit for musical theatre. I can sight read, play by ear, read charts, improvise, and write parts. I play acoustic 4 or 5 string, electric violin, or acoustic with a pickup. I sing lead, harmony, or backing vocals. I also have experience playing for contra and square dances. While I am based in Nashville, I am willing to travel.

Studio Musician

I possess a wide array of skills that make me a very versatile studio musician. I can sight read, improvise, read chord charts, write parts, chop/groove, and solo. I am also comfortable playing in a string section, and own an acoustic 5-string I can cover viola parts with. I also play electric violin and the standard acoustic 4-string, all of which I have studio experience with.

I have experience recording in film and video game scoring settings, pop string sections, bluegrass, old-time, Americana, Celtic, country, rock, blues, jazz, and metal bands, and working with composers and singer-songwriters. I also have experience recording lead, harmony, and backing vocals.

I love helping a composer or songwriter bring their vision into reality, or being that extra dazzle that takes your song to the next level!

Transciber

Do you have a recording you want turned into sheet music? I am proficient in Sibelius, MuseScore, and similar software and can turn your song, tune, arrangement, or performance into notation for distribution, personal records, or copyright purposes.

Have a recording you want to learn but struggle with learning by ear? I can transcribe it! Have violin tab you'd like turned into real notation? I can transcribe that too! Have hard to read or poorly formatted sheet music? I can fix that!

Teacher

I offer violin/fiddle lessons to all ages and ability levels with the goals of growing my student's musicianship and savoring the joy of the learning process. I can teach technique, music theory, improvisation, vibrato, tone production, chopping, ear-training, sight reading, and stylistic nuance, among other skills, and am certified to teach the Mark O'Connor Method, although I prefer to tailor repertoire to each student. Expect to learn both by ear and off of paper and to learn a wide variety of repertoire in many different genres.
